Greetings! Needless to say, yesterday was a hard day. Yesterday all of my family gathered to say goodbye to baby Joel Stephen Herbold. Since since yesterday three thoughts have been running through my mind. I wanted to share them here.
1. In John’s Gospel (chapter 11), Jesus meets with a couple of ladies who were good friends of His. Their brother had died a few days prior to that. They had sent word to Him to come and heal their brother. But Jesus didn’t. When He gathered with the family, He weeps. When His people weep, He weeps along with them. Yesterday as we wept, Jesus was there weeping with us.
2. In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, the apostle Paul tells the Corinthians (and us) “praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, …”. May the God of all comfort and peace give all who have lost someone comfort and peace in their time of grieving.
3. Chris Tomlin is one of my favorite contemporary Christian singers. One of his songs I like seems applicable here. Here are a few words:
Jesus has overcome.
And the grave is overwhelmed.
The victory is won.
He is risen from the grave.
Knowing our Jesus has already defeated death gives us hope we’ll see baby Joel again.
I hope this ministers to you in some small way.
Comments, questions, etc are always welcomed and encouraged.
God bless you all.
Grace and Peace.
