Greetings everyone! Last night I was reminded of a story I heard about while studying at Sunset.
This is a story of a man who used to teach at Sunset (he is now deceased). This man took a class on animals. The final exam for this class was identifying some of the birds they had learned about. The only thing was all they had to identify the birds was their legs and feet.
This man was so mad and frustrated he took his test paper put it on the teacher’s desk and started to walk away. The teacher yelled for him to put his name on the test sheet. He walks up to the teacher, puts his leg on the teacher’s desk, rolled up his pants leg, and said “you tell me who I am”.
This man had told this story a few times in sermons. But those who heard it didn’t remember a single thing about his sermon except for this story. So he stopped telling it.
The point of illustrations and stories is to reinforce points in the lesson.
When Jesus illustrated the kingdom of heaven, He used things and stories His hearers were familiar with and knew about. So whenever they remembered those stories and things, they would be able to remember Jesus’ lessons. Brilliant!
I’ll close with that. Your comments, thoughts, questions, etc are always welcomed and encouraged.
God bless. Grace and Peace.
