Greetings one and all. I wanted to share something I read today.
I’ve been reading a book called The Love Of Christ In The Local Congregation by Larry Deason. In the chapter I’ve been reading, Deason has been taking about the church as an organism as opposed to an organization. Here is some of what I read today:
“I have coined a word that, for me, suggests the God-ordained manner of life appropriate to the church as a living organism: organismal. As ‘organic’ speaks of the nature and composition of a living thing, ‘organismal’ conveys the style in which an organism functions and expresses its life. The body of Christ is an organism, and the members share together in the life of its head, Christ. All the church’s structure, forms, programs, and other expressions of body life must be organismal: they must express the nature of the Christian community as a living organism… Organismal forms and expressions are movements of the body of Christ which manifest the life of Christ in the world by ministering to human needs.” (The Love Of Christ In The Local Congregation, pp 199-200 and 201).
To me, this shows the body of Christ truly is an organism. And the life blood and life work of this organism (the body of Christ) is organismal in nature. I believe Brother Deason was spot on here.
Thank you all very much for reading my thoughts here. Of course, any and all thoughts, comments, questions, etc are always welcomed and encouraged.
God bless you all. Grace and Peace.
Zack
