Greetings one and all. First of all I must apologize for not posting a news letter in such a long time. I’ve been extremely busy, but that is not a good excuse. Here is a format I hope to accomplish in the next few days: today talk about what happened in January, tomorrow talk about February, and next Friday talk about March. Hopefully all of this will be accomplished in that time frame. Then I’ll be caught up and follow through with the rest of my monthly newsletters from then on out.
Since so much time has passed I don’t remember a whole lot about what happened in January. I remember getting to spend a wonderful Christmas and New Year holidays with my family and friends back home. I had a blast! The time went by way too fast. When school started back up we had all new classes. Our Monday/ Wednesday classes were Acts of the Apostles and Matthew. Our Tuesday/ Thursday classes were Effective Bible Study and Scheme of Redemption. Our Friday class was Evangelistic Methods. And our Preaching Lab was Topical Preaching (we got our grades and I’ll write about those during the March newsletter). Also in January was the Sunset Lectureship. The theme was 2020 Vision (meaning seeing clearly and for the year 2020). The theme lectures were excellent! It started on a Wednesday night with a lesson on having an evangelistic prayer life. The lecture was titled: The Power of Constant Prayer by Jim Gardner of Fresno, CA. On Thursday morning Ben Myers of Richardson, TX gave a lesson on Balancing Grace, Love, and the Pattern of Sound Words. Thursday afternoon Eli Hopper of Grass Valley, CA gave a lesson on The Impact of a Christ-Focus On Our Mission to the Lost. That night Truitt Adair of Lubbock, TX (and the President of Sunset International Bible Institute) gave a lesson on Passing the Torch of Leadership on to the Next Generation. Friday morning Kevin Haynes of Lubbock, TX gave a lesson on Building Our Future on a Solid Foundation. That afternoon Ken Wilson of Puyallup, WA gave the keynote on How Servants Deal With Error and Opposition. That night Chris Swinford of Lubbock, TX gave a lesson on The Value of God’s Word and Godly Living. Saturday morning Dennis Jones of Florence, AL gave a keynote on How to Finish Well. And Saturday afternoon JJ Turner of Denver, CO gave the keynote address on Does Biblical Preaching Still Work. All of the keynotes were excellent! I enjoyed each of them very much.
Let me give the basic premise of each of them. Jim’s lesson was about praying evangelistic prayers for family and friends who are living in sin. Ben’s lesson was about having a healthy and biblically sound pattern of words. Eli’s lesson was on seeing the world as Christ sees it and to reach out to those that are far away from Him. Truitt’s lesson was telling us to be sure to effectively pass hte torch of leadership on to the next generation. Kevin’s lesson was on building a solid foundation on God’s Word. Ken’s lesson was about using God’s Word to refute error. Chris’s lesson was on learning from and valuing your mentors in the faith. Dennis’ lesson was on finishing your ministry and your life on a high note, to finish strong. And JJ’s lesson was to tell us that yes biblical preaching still does work.
I hope to do my February newsletter tomorrow and March newsletter next weekend. Thank you all for your patience, love, support, and prayers. Please keep it up! Please pray God will open the hearts of those we speak to to hear the Word of God and that some will come to know Jesus as their Lord and be baptized. Thank you all! God bless. Grace and Peace.
